I photographed Avery with her family when she was 3 months old. What a treat to put my lens on her again at 9 months old. I felt like I achieved a certain level of success with this shoot. I have always thought that a really great photographer would be able to photograph their subject anywhere and by using angles and apertures and whatever the location had to offer produce a good result. Avery's Momma chose a tiny downtown park that for her offered charm and character. I gasped when I saw it, for me it was a photographers nightmare! It was on a tiny block surrounded by lanes of traffic and stoplights, a church, office buildings, a bank, and a neighborhood. I wish I would have snapped a picture of the block so I could prove this was tricky scenery. One of my least favorite things when I am photographing is clutter (you know, cars, garbage cans, stoplights, etc.) in the back of my shot. But I was determined to make the most of it and I think that with angles and positioning and the right aperture to blur out my background, you'd never know these were taken right smack downtown! OK, Melissa, though you gave me a scare, thanks for a challenging yet excellent location pick!!
Avery was PERFECT for me. Mostly she was all smiles. I love seeing cute little baby teeth poking through the bottom gums and she was showing hers off all evening.

I had forgotten that I always wished I had dimples. This picture reminded me that I have always wanted dimples!

I lost her attention for a bit. She was on a mission to pull something out between the cracks of this bridge.

Change of outfit/change of scenery. Yes, we are still at the same park. There happened to be a few feet of green grass in one small little corner of the park.

Here she goes getting all "Curious George" on me again.

She's a thumb sucker. I always love catching little habits like this on camera.

Ooh those dimples coupled with that tiny tongue sticking out. Cute, silly baby.

Here is a serious face amongst all the smiles.

Baby Avery, may your chubby cheeks be documented forever!

I want to know how many of you out there cringe and say "ew!" when you see this! Baby mouthing public park bench.

This is baby getting shy.

This is baby winding down on me.

What a treat you are, Baby Avery!
